Challenges and Opportunities

At the current rate of population growth we will not be able to sustain ourselves or the planet if we don’t change how we eat.

The combined effect of CO2 and CO2 equivalent gases such as methane, nitrous oxide and many fluorinated gases are responsible for trapping heat in the atmosphere much of which is produced by livestock agriculture.

Agriculture is a huge contributor of CO2e. However, that contribution can reduced by re-balancing the land for plant-based diets and more sustainable materials.

Plant-based diets have benefits for our health and can help restore the natural resource of the planet.

Challenges and Opportunities

Textile production is one of the largest producers of green house gases (GHG) and actually generates the highest GHG emission per unit of material.

Use of sustainable fibres significantly reduces our carbon and water footprint. Natural fibres can act as carbon absorbers and lock in carbon naturally when growing.

Most of the carbon and water footprint of apparel comes from its production.

Plant-based products tend to contain fewer ingredients that cause or aggravate skin conditions and can include antioxidants, essential fatty acids, essential oils as well as vitamins and minerals.

Aerosols are not good for the environment. Instead of CFCs – hydrocarbons, nitrous oxide and other greenhouse gases are used.

Plant-based personal and home care products are environment positive unlike animal products which originate from sources that are a key cause of climate change, water depletion and soil erosion.

In the UK five times more people are killed by air pollution that in road accidents with the two most lethal pollutants being Nitrous Oxide (NO2) and the small particles emitted.

Greener and more sustainable energy creation closer to the point of use is needed. Many existing technologies are ready to be adapted to quickly reduce carbon as research continues to bring new solutions to bear.

A computer carbon footprint can range up to 800kg with 60-100g being used hourly when in use.  We need greener production of our devices as well as much less day to day energy use that shut down when not in use.
